Hello to all teachers and
students!
I have been here for almost 5 months and I still have a lot of fun.
This is my last week of christmas break and on January third school starts
again.
Christmas was really nice, though it didn't feel like Christmas for me. On
Friday before Christmas, we started a tour to visit some relatives from my
family. On Friday, we visited my host mom's sister and her son. On Saturday,
we left and visited first my host dad's parents and in the evening the my
host mom's dad. In my host dad's parents house was 56 nativitis and 280 and
something angels. So you can believe I was in shock when I saw their living
room. And every room has a different color. One of 3 living rooms is brown.
Another one is green and the bathroom was purple. Everything in there was
purple. The bath tub, the sink, the shower, the carpet and even a small
christmas tree!!! We had a big lunch with meat, potatoes, etc.
On Sunday morning, we finally went back home. In the evening we went to
church and saw a light-show. It was really pretty, but really cold.
The next morning we got up and opened our presents. I got many clothes like
t-shirts, a winter jacket, etc. and even a calculator that changes its color
which is pretty cool. ;) In the evening we wanted to have a tradional dinner.
But we couldn't get any turkey so we had really small chicken. For everyone
one. It was really nice though.
Next weekend my school is having a basketball tournament and I have to sell
stuff with a friend. Basketball is really important here and every week
there is a different tournament. It alot of fun and I always watch my sister
play. She is 16 and I also have a brother who is 14 but acts like 3 or 4
years old. So it's sometimes pretty annoying and I am glad that I have a
sister in Germany and not a brother.
School is totally different to school in Germany. We have school from 8 to 4
o'clock in the afternoon. Have one long break for lunch at 11.30 and then
only 5 minutes between each class. But the time at school pasts so much
faster than in Germany because we have every day the same scedule.
I'll send you some photos from me, mickey mouse and pluto in disneyland and
some of my home. I have a lot of fun here but I am looking forward to come
back!
So how is school in Germany? Is everything alright so far? Is everybody
healthy?
Many regards, Anna

und hier ein Gedicht von Anna (März 2007)
Hurrying, stress and hectic,
Noises: screaming, crying, laughing and talking.
Everybody tries to get from one place to another;
There is a women and her daughter, laughing,
A man on the phone, not paying attention,
A couple arguing about which way is the shortest,
A family crying because they had an accident,
And two best friends on their way to summer vacation.
Nobody cares about the others, the are just focused on themselves,
Traffic is hectic and not always fun,
Traffic has many emotions; screaming, crying, laughing,
But still traffic is just traffic and nobody likes it
Hurrying, stress and hectic,
Traffic is just traffic.
Gesa Burmeister, Abschluss im Juni 2004, berichtet aus Omaha:
Hello to all teachers and students from the Albinus- Realschule,
I decided today to write in English, because so people can see how easy it is
after 5 month. I really think and dream in English.I could never believe that
but it happened really fast.
I can write you , because today was the first real snow day and when there are
more than 12 inches snow there is no school. What happened, so they said in the
evening news there will be no school for all Omaha Public Schools.
Today was after the 2 weeks winter break my first school day. All teachers spoke
only about the upcoming finals. You have to pass these to make the semester what
is ending on the January 13th.
However, I had a real good break. Christmas was a very exciting event. We had on
Christmas Eve my whole Mom's family over here (around 20 people). We had a big
dinner, everybody brought something and I mate my German noodle salad. I really
enjoyed that evening and I got my first presents. We all sat in one room imagine
20 people and then a whole bunch of gifts - exciting. The both littleuns
distributed the presents to all of us, but the very crucially point was that
only one person per time could open a gift. The opened gifts more than 2 hours.
I got surprisingly a lot of gifts (Omaha North High shirt, an American heart
ornament for the christmas tree, a sweater with a America flag, a sweater with
the football team vikings, stickers, sweets, candles) At 11 pm we went to a
church called Trinity to participate in the service. It was amazing, because
they played all the Christmas song I learned a week before at the retirement
home when my church were there to carolling. Besides!
that they had a big bell choir and they played Holy Night in German "Stille
Nacht". Yes, then you could see some tears running from my eyes.
On Christmas we had breakfast with my grandparents. Then my Mom told me if I
checked if Santa Claus brought me something for my stocking. Oh yes, he did a
lot of stuff everything America style like a America puzzle.
At 4 pm my Mom's son with his girlfriend and my Dad's son with his family
arrived. We couldn't wait for the gifts, so we opened them first before we ate.
It was so touching when John, my dad, opened his gift. He is in the fire
epartment her eso my dad sent him a real German fire helmet. He was so happy
about it. I got amazing stuff like earrings, clothes, bracelet, necklace, body
spray and lotion, purse.
We had a great evening with playing games and chatting about a lot of things.
Okay this was my Christmas report.
So you have to tell me how's it going at the school ?
Yours, Gesa
